The ‘Happy Baby’ advert from Hewlett-Packard truly gets the viewer smiling. The advert was created to advertise the new HP mobile devise app whereby consumers can print any document from wherever they are as long as they can connect to the printer via an email. The advert, like other ‘baby’ based ads, as seen previously by Evian and the ‘Roller Babies’, adds a sense of emotion for the viewer. The viewer is taken by the chirpy, light-heartedness of the Melanie Safka ‘Brand New Key’ song with her airy, child like tones along with the cheeky expressions made by the baby itself, as he is on his adventure travelling at high speeds. Yes the consumer flinches at times knowing the baby is weaving in and out of cars but relief sets in once the baby returns home safely and the adverts end with his parents taking a picture of him! The close up shots of the Baby are intuitive and reinforces the idea of freedom and adventure that can be captured at that very moment and shared instantly. More importantly the advert appeals to the Smart Phone generation, whereby consumers like having the power to do everything at the touch of a button.
