There seems to have been a large influx of online dating websites emerging over the past few years, they seem to be 10-a-penny these days and they tend to have their own style of television ads. Match.com and Mother with their 'start your love story' campaign have been able to set themselves apart from the other ads by doing something very creative and artistic. Most dating website ads are very descriptive and information based, however the 'accidental duet' ad touches upon the art and beauty of meeting somebody and falling in love rather than the statistics behind it. The song is very catchy and stands as a good mnemonic for the brand as I regularly find myself singing along to it. One of the strengths of this ad is that it can be seen through the eyes of both genders as neither of the characters play a more prominent role than the other, enabling the ad to avoid alienating either sex. Its weakness however, and rather ironically, is that the ad depicts two people meeting without the use of an online dating service, thus rendering Match.com's service unnecessary in the art of love finding in this case.
Genre: Slice of Life
