This advertisement made me laugh a LOT. Whether or not this was the effect they were trying to achieve is another matter. Perhaps because it is a European advert the producers thought it would be more accepted, however it is unsurprising that it was banned. The advert could not be more inappropriate for the brand, as people of all ages drink Sprite and therefore will respond to the advert. It's hard to imagine any specific market the producers were trying to target when they thought of this concept - perhaps they wanted to appeal to young people. All the young people I know who have seen this have been quite disgusted by it. However, maybe this was the effect they were trying to achieve - getting people talking about the brand. Sprite has been around for a long time and maybe the aim of this promotion was to generate new interest in the brand. Whatever the reason, it is difficult to imagine the meeting in which the marketing team sat down and said, "This is our idea."
